Happy New Year!!
The holidays are over. The stress, overindulgences and spreading yourself too thin are now in the past. So many of us use the New Year to reflect on the past and set goals for the future. Are you one of the millions of people that resolve to make 2019 better than 2018? Do you plan to hit the gym or exercise more? Eat better by adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to your day? Maybe start that meditation or yoga practice you’ve been thinking about. A lot of resolutions are abandoned within a short few months due to poor planning and unrealistic expectations of ourselves.
If you want to be successful in keeping your New Year resolutions, start by being committed to your goal, make a plan and start slowly. Many goals can be broken down into smaller more easily attainable bites. Maybe start by trying to lose 5 lbs instead of 25 lbs right away or adding vegetables to todays meals instead of buying enough produce to make a salad for every meal of the week. If you hit the ground running at full speed you might burn out pretty quickly.
Know that you will get sidetracked and life will throw you a few curve balls. Expecting this will happen at some point will help you be prepared for it when it happens. Think ahead to what you might do to get back on track. Don’t throw in the towel right away. Just begin again where you are. Give yourself a pep talk! Believe in yourself!
Be kind to yourself. So many resolutions can bring on more stress and pain at the beginning. Always plan down time and self care.
